Community Energy Assessment Program

The Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) is happy to present the Community Energy Assessment Program. The EFCL has purchased a group of ASHRAE Level 2 energy audits to be completed on Community League Facilities throughout 2020 and 2021. The audits will include a utility bill analysis, a site visit to examine the facility and its mechanical and electrical equipment, and a final report detailing recommendations for energy efficiency upgrades complete with an economic analysis of each upgrade. This provides a roadmap for the Community League to follow when considering infrastructure upgrades and CLIP allocation.

Some of the many advantages of receiving an energy audit are:

  • An energy audit will inform you whether you can save money by renegotiating your utility contract.

  • An energy audit will inform you what your emissions currently are, what they could potentially be given a series of upgrades, and how much each upgrade will reduce your emissions.

  • An energy audit will inform you about the cost of various upgrades to your facility, how much energy you can expect to save by implementing the upgrades, and how long it will take to pay back the investment.

The EFCL's Energy Transition Advisor will be available throughout the process for any information. Feel free to contact Michael Barnard at (780) 485-5332 or GreenLeagues@EFCL.org. After the completion of the energy assessment and receipt of the energy audit report, the Energy Transition Advisor will be available to walk the Community League through the findings in the report and assist with the implementation of the recommendations within the report.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The organization must be a registered Edmonton Community League and must own their own facility (as a rule, all Community Leagues situated on city-leased land as part of the tripartite agreement own their own facilities).

  • The Community League must sign and submit the Conservation Commitment Form to consent to complete all zero-cost energy conservation measures included in the audit report and a minimum of 2 capital energy conservation measures included in the audit report. If desired, one-on-one assistance will be provided by the EFCL’s Energy Transition Advisor as to how best to implement upgrades, and which upgrades make the most sense for the League to complete.

  • The Community League must sign and submit the Participant Registration and Consent Form for the City of Edmonton’s Building Energy Assessment Program.

  • A copy of the following documents must be provided to the EFCL:

    • All utility bills from 2017, 2018 and 2019, including natural gas, electricity and water

    • A copy of the building’s floor plan

    • Any available site engineering drawings

    • Any existing building condition assessment or energy audit (the EFCL will provide a Stantec report if one was completed for your facility)

    • Signed HuFF Request Form

    • Signed Information Sharing Consent Form

    • Filled out the energy assessment questionnaire (Google Form or hard copy is acceptable)

  • The Community League must agree to a site visit by Internat Energy Solutions (date TBD).
