Edmonton is a place where community is understood and valued, and where Community Leagues are seen as the mechanism for citizens to build great neighbourhoods and advocate for the city they want. Our city is internationally recognized for its Community League system and helps bring a small town feel by bringing neighbours together.
The Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) is the representative body that has supported Community Leagues since 1921. We provide resources, workshops, and training to meet the needs of neighbourhoods resulting in a stronger, more connected city.
Community Leagues have built over $500,000,000 in community assets and help to:
• Build healthy communities by promoting participation in affordable recreation, sports and social activities
• Advocate for and build community-specific infrastructures such as ice rinks, spray parks and community halls
• Make better citizens by creating opportunities to volunteer and practice personal development skills
Community Leagues create a sense of belonging for every citizen, regardless of background, age or ability. They are vital for the prosperity of our city.
The celebration of our 100th anniversary brings with it an opportunity to educate the community on the purpose and benefit of Community Leagues, and to celebrate the future of Community Leagues in Edmonton.
With Edmonton being Canada’s youngest, fastest growing city, our young families and aging population are spending more time in their neighbourhoods, with a growing concern for safety, infrastructure and a sustainable local economy. We want to keep communities connected to their Leagues so that we can understand the changing needs of residents and provide the tools to build stronger and more vibrant communities.
