Climate Resilience Hubs – Pilot Project
The Climate Resilience Hub pilot project will explore the potential for League facilities to act as hubs for residents of their community during times of extreme heat, poor air quality, and extended power outages.

Community Leagues have a long history in Edmonton and a very unique structure. Their role is constantly evolving – In addition to being important places in the community for events and recreation, many Leagues are expanding their purpose to take on Climate Resilience and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion projects. Community Leagues are well-positioned to provide safe spaces for residents of the neighbourhood during times of extreme weather, power outages, and days with poor air quality, the number of which is increasing dramatically due to climate change-fueled wildfires.
A huge thank you to our project funder – Alberta Ecotrust, for providing funding for Green Leagues to develop the plans and processes necessary for Leagues to act as Climate Resilience Hubs in their neighbourhoods.
