Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Onsite Workshop

April 27 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 pm

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a multi-disciplinary approach of crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments. With the help of Constable Shannon Harrigan of the Edmonton Police Service, we’ll learn how CPTED strategies aim to reduce victimization, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among inhabitants so they can gain territorial control of areas, reduce crime, and minimize fear of crime.

In this event we will discuss and demonstrate at a CL Hall:

  • Reducing crime opportunities by modifying the environment
  • How the physical environment can have a direct relationship on human behaviour
  • Provide appropriate lighting for streets, paths, alleys, and parks
  • Encouraging use of public spaces
  • Natural surveillance, natural access control, territoriality

This event is held in-person at the Delton Community League – 12325 88 Street
