A course that explains the key important agreement between the Community League, The City of Edmonton and Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues.  This course was created in collaboration between EFCL and The City of Edmonton Neighbourhood Services Department.

Supporting Inclusive Communities – Course 1

Module 1- Self Reflection – In this module, we will hone in our skill to self-reflect about the lens we use to approach diversity and inclusion work.

Module 2- Being an Ally – Being an ally starts with how we interact with our neighbourhoods. But long-term changes require collective efforts to support inclusion and allyship in our workplaces, organizations, institutions, households and communities. In this module, we will explore what it means to be an ally and resources to help you build a supportive and inclusive community.

Supporting Inclusive Communities – Course 2

Module 1 – Influences on Our Decisions and Behaviours
– Our decisions and behaviours are influenced by many factors, such as our identities, as mentioned in Course 1. They can also be affected by factors we are not consciously aware of, like biases. In this module, we explore how biases impact our ability to build inclusive communities and provide tips to help you make the best decisions for your community.

Module 2 – Making the Community League Movement More Accessible Through Language – This module discusses ways your Community League can utilize language to create inclusive spaces in your neighbourhood.

Module 3 – Improving Board Diversity – This module discusses board diversity and provides suggestions for how your League’s board can resemble the diversity found in your neighbourhood.

Module 4 – Human-Centred Design in Community Leagues – This module discusses board diversity and provides suggestions for how your League’s board can resemble the diversity found in your neighbourhood.

Supporting Inclusive Communities – Course 3

Module 1 – What Solution Is Best? – Learn about the differences between equality, equity and justice as a response to inequalities that may be present in your Community League.

Supporting Inclusive Communities – Course 4

Module 1 – Having Restorative Conversations: What to Do When Things Go Wrong – Inevitably we will all make mistakes because of our biases, assumptions and lack of knowledge. This module is all about giving you tools and strategies to repair relationships and make amends when mistakes occur.

Supporting Inclusive Communities – Course 5

Courses one through five provide an overview of skills and knowledge to support you in building inclusion in your day-to-day activities and the roles you play in your community. Modules in course five provide more in-depth knowledge on specific topics as requested by Community League Members.

Module 1 – Inclusive Social Media Practices – Today, social media is integral to how we communicate and stay connected. By the way posts are crafted, social media content provides an opportunity to show the community that your League is a warm and welcoming place. This module explores tips to make your social media content more accessible and engaged for all populations. You can also use some of these ideas in print communication.

Module 2 – Housing Diversity – The types of housing available influence who lives in our neighbourhoods and participates in our Community Leagues. In this module, we’ll discuss housing diversity and how it impacts inclusion and community engagement.
