Steven Gaudet Takes the Helm as EFCL Board President

For Steven Gaudet, the local community hall isn’t just another building- it’s the backdrop of his childhood.

Now, as he steps into the role of EFCL Board President, Gaudet brings a deeply personal connection to a movement that has shaped Edmonton’s neighborhoods for over a century.

Gaudet’s path to board leadership is rooted in the very grassroots experiences the EFCL works to preserve.

“I remember growing up in Edmonton and the hall being a centre of community activity as it hosted our scouting meetings and facilitated our softball leagues,” Gaudet recalled.

Those early days spent under hall fluorescent lights and on local diamond fields left a lasting impression. To Gaudet, Community Leagues aren’t merely administrative bodies- they are the engines that build healthy, resilient neighborhoods.

Stepping into executive leadership comes with its share of hurdles. Across the city, non-profit organizations face growing challenges when it comes to maintaining active volunteer bases- a reality Gaudet acknowledges.

“I know how difficult it can be to get volunteer commitment,” Gaudet noted. However, he remains optimistic about what lies ahead, pointing to a mix of professional skills and genuine enthusiasm as his path forward. “I feel that my education, experience, and my love for the League movement can be of help.”

While taking on a city-wide mandate as Board President, Gaudet remains firmly grounded in his role as the representative for the Northeast District. He plans to place direct neighborhood engagement at the forefront of his tenure.

Gaudet steps into the role following Jenn Parsonage’ exceptional five years of leadership as Board President. Jenn has been an incredible advocate for the Community League movement, and because of her unwavering commitment, the EFCL is a stronger and more connected organization today.

Looking ahead, Gaudet is eager to roll up his sleeves and collaborate directly with local volunteers. His focus remains clear: strengthen individual leagues, support local volunteers, and ensure that Edmonton’s community halls continue to serve as vibrant hubs for generations to come.
