Community and Home Safety
March 17 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Led by the NET Community Safety Liaison, we will take the opportunity during this workshop to learn about some of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, and then spend some time walking through the community league property and adjacent spaces to discuss practical ways that some of these concepts can be directly implemented. Participants will also have the opportunity, after completing the NET CPTED self-assessment, to access some free home security hardware items that may help them to implement any recommendations made.
WHAT IS NET?
NET (Neighbourhood Empowerment Team) responds to repeated or significant incidents that may impact the security and safety of Edmontonians across the city. Our aim is to reduce the fear of crime and social disorder amongst community members. This workshop, facilitated by a Community Safety Liaison with NET, will cover some basic Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles that Ritchie residents can apply in and around their own properties. CPTED is a proven method to reduce actual crime and fear of crime by changing the physical environment. By proactivity applying CPTED principles we can increase the safety of our property and our community.
